NOVA MATERIA (Kill The Dj / Tropical indus electro / live / chi-fr)
Caroline Chaspoul and Eduardo Henriquez scoured the scenes of Europe and Latin America for over 12 years with their band PANICO. A taste of post punk & latin energy straight from chile PANICO made the heyday of punk funk revival in Europe and has become a cult group in Latin America. Ten albums later, Caro and Edu launch a new project : NOVA MATERIA.
NOVA MATERIA was born from the willingness to consider music as a direct derivative of the natural and industrial elements that surround us. More electronic and experimental than PANICO, the duo uses raw material to transform and recycle : scrap metal tubes, stones rubbed on metal, drum, beat boxes, bass, electric guitars used as percussions....To refine their sound Caro and Edu fetched DJ and producer CHLOE, a real expert in turning raw elements into gold nuggets.This first EP is released by th french label Kill The Dj and is produced by CHLOE, a concentrate of wild energy, live act ferocity and sound experiments. Certainly one of the more exciting project we’ve been lucky to listen to this year.
MUGWUMP (Subfield / electro disco pop / live / be)
After media plaudits on the debut-album, "Unspell" from the likes of Groove, Clash, SPIN, The Fader, Mixmag (Germany + UK), Nowness, Metro, Uncut, The Line of Best Fit, Les Inrocks, Tsugi, Le Soir, Focus and a recent June 2016 headlining guest appearance on BBC 6 Music, Mugwump now returns on Subfield in October 2016 with a new EP and an improved band line-up. Heading towards a big blend of influences such as Throbbing Gristle, TC Matic, early Talking Heads, The Stranglers, Johnny Marr, Air, Ought, Protomartyr or a darker LCD Soundystem, Mugwump keeps on joining the dots between daring dancecuts and live post-punk/disco/indierock with the Metempsycho EP, which serves as a vehicle and playground for the new formation, showcasing re-arrangements of existing album songs and the new single, « At the Front », an eerie piece of post-punk indie pop. The song signals an exciting direction for Mugwump’s second album, currently in the works and penned for 2017. Radical club facelifts by Kill The DJ/Les Disques de La Mort 's Ivan Smagghe/Rupert Cross , Fabrizio Mammarella (Slow Motion/Black Spuma/International Feel) & Subfield's recent signings Front De Cadeaux will round-off this exciting package.
FRONT DE CADEAUX (Subfield / electro disco experimental / live dj set / be)
Subfield’s first signings are the Belgian-italo duo Front De Cadeaux (brilliantly named after the Belgian EBM pioneer group FRONT 242). Front De Cadeaux are DJ Athome & Hugo Sanchez and together they expertly produced and play their own brand of “Supreme Rallentato”, which is a fucked-up slo-mo italo, acid, disco, techno and house hybrid that rightly fits with Subfield’s mission statement of covering music subgenres. Their trademark dj style of 45rpm-pitched-at-33rpm music takes further the vintage tradition of the Belgian New-Beat pionneers such as Olivier Pieters (Boccaccio) or Dikke Ronny (Ancienne Belgique). Their "Gift EP" on Subfield is being played by Acid Arab, Helena Hauff, Ben UFO and Andrew Weatherall, with remixes by Factory Floor & Ruf Dug.
